Users can manually transfer Exchange emails to MDaemon using the built-in MDMigrator and ActiveSync Migrator client. Other than this, there are a few professional tools that can also transfer your emails. Therefore, in this blog, I will explain the steps for these methods with proper explanations.

Why You Need to Transfer from Exchange to MDaemon?

MDaemon and Microsoft Exchange are both on-premises email servers and collaborative platforms. Those who work on MS Exchange shift to MDaemon to get several benefits.

  • The price of purchasing an MDaemon license, upgrading, and renewing is more affordable than the license for MS Exchange.
  • You can set up MDaemon using low system resources, unlike Exchange Server, where you need heavy server hardware, extensive RAM, and a complete Windows Server operating system.
  • Managing MDaemon is much easier than Exchange Server, as you don’t need highly knowledgeable IT professionals.
  • Your configuration data, user settings, and emails are stored in an organized and simple directory structure in MDaemon, but in Exchange Server you have to follow complex database maintenance.

With these, there are other reasons to move your Exchange Server emails to an MDaemon account. But now let’s see the steps of the methods

MDMigrator Tool to Move Exchange Server Mails to MDaemon

The native tool MDMigrator is a nice way to manually transfer your mailbox. To use this, you must install it, and for this, you must fulfill these requirements.

  • The user must have full access to all the Exchange mailboxes.
  • Properly install MDaemon on your computer. Make sure the bit version of MDaemon that you are installing is the same as the Outlook bit version.
  • Add your computer to your Exchange server’s domain.
  • Also, you should at least use MDaemon once. The default domain name must be in MDaemon.
  • Completely close MDaemon when you are performing the migration.
  • To run MDMigrator, you need Outlook 2003 or a later version.
  • The Outlook profile must be for a user who has full access to call the Exchange mailboxes.
  • The users must be domain administrators when it is logged into Windows.
  • Make sure you enable MAPI to migrate your emails.

Follow the steps below to use the tool to migrate emails.

MDMigrator Tool Guide

  1. Open MDMigrator software and select the Outlook profile that is configured with the
  2. Microsoft Exchange admin account. Press Next.
  3. Check the Microsoft Exchange Server name that is present at the top.
  4. Choose the storage group from the drop-down menu.
  5. Verify your primary domain. If you need to import secondary domains, check the Migrate Secondary Domain box.
  6. Click Next for the review and then hit Next button again.
  7. You will get a list of discovered Exchange accounts. Check the box next to each user account, public folder, or distribution list that you want to move. Hit Next.
  8. After the migration is completely done, click Finish, open the MDaemon console, and go to the Account Manager.

With this, you will get your Exchange emails. However, it is lengthy, and many have experienced failed migration items. Don’t worry, there are other options available.

Migrate Exchange to MDaemon with ActiveSync Migration Client

You can find this in the MDaemon installation directory, and to start the process, first complete the prerequisites.

  • On the MDaemon server, create destination domain and user accounts.
  • On the source Exchange server, confirm that the ActiveSync protocol is available and enabled for all users.
  • Disable public and shared folder syncing to the Exchange server via ActiveSync.

After this, prepare the user input file and start the migration process.

Step-By-Step Procedure for ActiveSync Method

  1. Go to the \MDaemon\App\ directory on the MDaemon server.
  2. Create a CSV file, i.e., migration_list.csv, to map your accounts.
  3. In the file, add the user’s source Exchange credentials, just like ServerAddress,Username/Email,Password.
  4. Save the file, then go to the \MDaemon\App\ folder again.
  5. Find ASMCUI.exe and launch it by double-clicking it.
  6. Browse and select the file that you created earlier.
  7. Provide the location where you want your MDaemon user folders.
  8. Review the details and click Start or Migrate.

This method also has drawbacks, such as:

  • If you didn’t turn off public folders. Then it will see this as a personal folder, and it will migrate this to another mailbox.
  • You can only use this tool to support Exchange Server 2010 SP1 and higher.
  • This tool is not designed to transfer large mailboxes. Etc.

Therefore, an individual user who does not have enough knowledge may have difficulty following the manual steps, but the professional software makes the process much easier and faster.
